FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

June 12, 2008: The Pakistani American Public Affairs Committee is highly concerned about the sad accident that has resulted in the death of members of the Pakistani Military in the bordering region between Pakistan and Afghanistan.                     .

We join all our fellow Americans in the sorrow of the families who have been impacted. In this war on terror there have been many incidents of collateral damage that have occurred including the military personnel from Canada and now Pakistan.  It is important that the whole situation and circumstances around this incident be studied. There is an acute need to develop mechanisms of coordination and collaboration at the border level which would reduce the likelihood of such terrible accidents.

The current challenges in the region require having a better understanding on the ground level between forces. It is also very clear that the sovereignty of Pakistan which is extremely dear to the people in the region. We also need to act in manner which is fosters a true and positive image of United States. Individuals involved in such a significant error need to be identified and appropriate military mechanisms to manage them needs to occur.

PAKPAC urges better coordination understanding and collaboration and trust between the US and Pakistan military.
