une 12, 2008: The Pakistani American Public Affairs Committee
is highly concerned about the sad accident that has resulted in the death of members of the
Pakistani Military in the bordering region between Pakistan and Afghanistan. . We join all our fellow Americans in the sorrow of the families
who have been impacted. In this war on
terror there have been many incidents of collateral damage that have occurred including the military
personnel from Canada and now
Pakistan. It is important that the whole situation and circumstances around this
incident be studied. There is an acute need to develop mechanisms of coordination and collaboration at the border
level which would reduce the likelihood of such terrible accidents.
The current challenges in the region
require having a better understanding on the ground level between forces. It is also very clear that the
sovereignty of Pakistan which is extremely dear to the people in the region. We also need to act in manner which
is fosters a true and positive image of United States. Individuals involved in such a significant error need to be
identified and appropriate military mechanisms to manage them needs to occur.
PAKPAC urges better coordination understanding and collaboration and trust between the US and Pakistan military.
