For Immediate Release:

May 29th, 2007: The Pakistani American Public Affairs Committee strongly condemns the alleged actions of young Pakistani American boy, who allegedly cut the hair of a fellow Sikh student. Mr. Umair Ahmed, 17, violated Harpal's religious beliefs by forcibly removing the victim's turban and cutting his hair in a Queens ’s high school bathroom recently.

It is concerning to see that a member of a community which has recently has had many challenges with respect to civil rights and feeling of religious persecutions is involved in hurting another similar community members of his religious rights. PAKPAC stands with the victim and his community to support them and be available to stand against anyone, even if they are of Pakistani heritage, if they do wrong and take away anyone’s civil or religious rights.
