FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

June 16, 2008: The Pakistani American Public Affairs Committee is highly concerned over the comments of Mr. Hamid Karzai about sending Afghan troops in Pakistan. His statement about sending troops in Pakistan do not help the region in any way. His previous and current miscalculated and at time misguided statements actually have and can continue to hurt the long term interests of the people of the region.

PAKPAC joins other concerned Americans and people of Pakistan to ask the leaders in the region especially Mr. Karzai to exert extreme caution and use basic diplomatic norms for better understanding and avoid using media as a mechanism for communicating with each other and sharing perceived differences in goals.

The war or terror has had many failures and while it is clear that there is a need to deal with this menace, it has to be dealt with careful planning and understanding. Building bridges with the key nations is critical. There is a need for developing mechanism of improving the lives and appropriate education status of the people in the region.
