Pakistani Americans condemn attack on Sri Lanka cricket team
WASHINGTON DC: March 3rd 09 The Pakistani American Public Affairs Committee denounces the acts of terrorism and attack on the Sri Lanka cricket team players in Lahore, Pakistan. These attacks are another stark proof that the extremists and anti –Pakistan groups remain active not only in the border areas but have started to move in to major and important cities of Pakistan.
We extend our fullest sympathy and support to the injured cricketers, and to the families of officers who lost their lives.
We are highly concerned that such attacks are being perpetrated at an increasing frequency and the attackers were able to cause harm despite the “maximum security” that was being provided to the guests of Pakistan. This is failure of administration, intelligence and security responsibilities. While there is a need to place significant resources in tracking and bringing such extremists to their end, it is important to have all the people included the ones at highest office accountable for this failure to be held responsible and immediately replaced by much more appropriate, committed and vigilant people to effectively deal with the menace.
The people of Pakistan love cricket no matter where they live. Cricket has been one of the most revered activity and an identity of all Pakistanis. This terrorist activity focused on Pakistan’s guests is also an attack on what the people in Pakistan hold so dear to themselves. This attack should be yet another wake up call for all people in Pakistan to unite against extremism in all shapes and forms and make certain that all aspects of their government remains focused on fighting it each and every level.
