PAKISTANI
AMERICAN COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT ON SUPER TUESDAY

 |
The Pakistani American Public
Affairs Committee asks all the community
members eligible to vote to vote and have
their voices heard on Tuesday Feb 5th, 2008 in
their respective states.
PAKPAC has been in close communication with
the campaigns of the main contenders. We feel
that at this time that there are many
strengths in current candidates, and as their
policies are refining on issues of our
concern. The policies with respect to the
civil rights challenges of the Pakistani
Americans are being better addressed by both
the Democratic candidates. There has not been
a distinct difference in their views on these
issues. There is room for further improvement
in these views.
With respect to the long term Pakistan US
relationship the 2 main democratic candidates
have not necessarily been able to propose a
policy which may be in the long term interest
of both United States and Pakistan at this
time.
The two front runners of the Republican
party do not propose views that may improve
the civil rights challenges at this time.
Moreover, while their views with respect to
the Pakistan US relationship at this time are
slightly better the their Democratic
candidates, they do not look at the long term
investment in the region, that is very much
needed at this time.
We feel that in order to make a paradigm
shift in the views of the different campaigns,
there is an acute need of the community
members to become part of these campaigns.
This will help them be a part of policy
formulation and improvement within the
campaigns. Only groups, communities which are
an integral part of the political process and
have an impact on public perception and policy
can have their voices heard on a consistent
and sustainable bases.
