Pakistani Americans  in US military

The current tragic incident in Fort Hood where so many precious lives were lost would bring back memories of the loss of lives of all our brave men and women who died for our freedom. Such incidents freshens the pain of the loved ones of their enormous losses where ultimate sacrifices were given.

Amongst these people would be some names that at times are not recognized as much as they need to be. These include the recent losses of Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan, who died in Iraq, (recipient of Bronze Star and Purple heart) Lt. Ali Jivanjee, a Pakistani American pilot died on duty, First Lt. Mohsin Naqvi died while on patrol in Afghanistan, few days after being married. He received a Purple Heart and finally a Bronze Star.

Another story is that of Lt. Col. Khan, who was the first of six Americans to set foot in Afghanistan, when the War on Terror started right after September 11 2001. Incidentally, of the first six Americans, three were American Muslims of Pakistani heritage and without their language skills, know-how and bravery, our soldiers and marines would have had a tough time beginning their fight against Al-Qaida and the Taliban forces.

Another Pakistani American Marine, a mess-hall clerk from Salt Lake City, also has emerged as a hero. Cpl. Ajmal Achekzai was chosen in November to raise the U.S. flag over the coalition base near Kandahar.

Besides the Pakistani American soldiers other American Muslims have been a part of the US forces have been pillars of support and part of the team. These soldiers and many more have been an important part of the US forces. According to some estimates there are over three thousand Muslim serving in the US military.
