Situation Analysis Report October 13th

By: Dr. Junaid Razzak,
Master of Disaster Management, Pakistan.
Department fo Emergency Management, Aga Khan University and Emory University

What can Pakistani American do for the Disaster Response?

1. Support financially

2. Advocacy for relief support – This has overwhelmed Pakistan at all levels. We don’t have money, people, equipment and now the cool thinking to do the right thing. This effort will require major investment from outside; larger than individual donors can do. Advocacy with your governments can help.

3. Change the face of Pakistan: This event has given a human side of Pakistan to the world. Let’s run with it. Use this picture to tell the world that we are not terrorists but common people with families. It will help change the image of Pakistan.

4. Watch dog for efforts of Pakistan Government – the present govt seems to care about what Pakistani’s abroad think about them

5. Emphasize things not generally emphasized in Pakistan – capacity building for the next one; political change;

6. Support development of academic units in medical and engineering universities that teach disaster management.

7. Support a local office in Pakistan whose job is to maintain constant communication between affected, government, local NGOs and the Pak American Community. You will have to do it, no one in government or outside would do it.

8. Support a field hospital and make a rotating roster for surgeons and physicians to the field hospital.
