The Missing People Committee in Pakistan
In the few many years, there have been a number of people who were detained or were being found missing in Pakistan. It is believed that these
people were picked up by agencies in Pakistan and were initially believed to be suspicious for certain activities and subsequently were people who
were victims of political backlash, which resulted in their being detained for the past years.
While some of these individuals might have been criminals, but it is reasonable for any civil society
to expect due process within its boundaries. A country like United States, which is a beacon of hope for other parts of the world, needs to help
pursue due process in partners in the other parts of the world. This committee is being led by Mehlaqa Samdani, who has been Master of Arts and
Law and Diplomacy from Fletcher school of law and diplomacy at Tufts University. She holds a Bachelor in Arts and International Relations and
Economics from University of Denver. She has worked for Centre for Strategic and International Studies and Counsel on Foreign Relations and United
Nation Department of Political Affairs in the past. She will be leading this committee to help better identify mechanisms with PAKPAC for safe
return of the people who may have been wrongfully affected by the past policies.
